Can structure and function be used to help solve a design problem?  This is a qusetion 5th graders have been exploring this week as they begin their introduction into Project Lead the Way.  Students have incorporated reading, math, and science skills in the introductory lessons as they have designed the tallest free-standing beanstalk, created houses that will not fall down when the wind is blowing, and create a paintbrush that can do more than a regular paintbrust.  Students have enjoyed learning about the scientific process and the hands-on activities.  Students are excited to do more PLTW activities as the year progresses!
